What: AKA South by Southwest® (or just South By™), but if you visit this site you probably know that. And you know what it is, and that it goes a long way toward setting the tone for the music films you’ll be seeing at festivals for the 12 months to follow.
The lineup for this year’s music/film/interactive/environmental/comedy/athletic/etc. Austin extravaganza features 21 music documentaries at this writing, concentrated as always in SXSW Film’s standard-bearing 24 Beats Per Second category. Several have previously been covered in these pages, including Danny Says, Theory of Obscurity: A Film About the Residents, The Ecstasy of Wilko Johnson, and They Will Have to Kill Us First.
